The problem with normal home air purifiers is that they suck air in through one side of the machine and then push it out through the opposite side - creating somewhat of a "flow" of air from one side to the other.

This often results in a "draught" feeling, and in many cases, some air in the room never gets cleaned and recycled (called the "air stagnation" effect). Thankfully, the Honeywell 50200 True HEPA Air Purifier is able to solve this problem, as it is a true 360 degree air purifier, sucking air in from all around. This will come as great relief to those who simply haven't been able to get their hands on a decent, comprehensive air purifier.

This is an incredibly compact machine for its ability. The first thing you will notice however is that there is only one type of filtration mechanism inside - the HEPA cell filter. Whilst this is able to suck 99.97% of the matter out of the air, it isn't very effective for tiny bacterium, spores, or other airborne particles which are ultimately less than 0.3 microns in size.

For the price though, you'll be getting an absolute bargain. We have never seen true HEPA filtration (let alone in a standalone home air purifier) at this price before.

Design & Style

Effectiveness
In our test setting, we let off various airborne particles in a controlled fashion - in an attempt to mimic the quality of indoor air in an average house. These particles included cigarette smoke, animal dander, dust mite excrement, and mold spores. We measured the quality of the air before and after the Honeywell 50200 True HEPA Air Purifier was turned on, to find out whether or not it was effective.

Our test concluded that the 99.97% claim was very close to being accurate, with our measurements calculating that 99.94% of everything we released was indeed picked up by the machine. Not a bad effort - and definitely worthy of a pass mark.
